Whether you’re celebrating or drowning your sorrows after Saturday’s match, it’s likely your house got a little neglected during the World Cup.
- Crisp crumbs and dip stains all over the sofa
- Beer spillages every time England scored
- Mates trampling their shoes all over your carpet
- Missing the weekly vacuuming to catch the game
If you’re have a party this weekend while the game is on take note of these clean up tips so your house can recover quicker than Neymar after he’s been tackled.
Start Clean, End Clean
Make sure your house is clean and tidy to begin with to avoid a clean up that quickly spirals into the deep clean you’ve been putting off. At the end of the night get some bin bags out and start doing a sweep for any rubbish and recycling. Guest will either take this as their cue to leave or they might even offer to lend a hand. Many hands make light work, after all.
If you usually end up with leftovers to last you until the next world cup why not tell guests they must take away anything that’s not been drunk/eaten at the end of the night. Encourage them to take home anything leftover, whether they brought it or not, as they won’t willingly take anything in case it seems rude.
Not all guests are versed in the etiquette of using coasters, especially when they’re putting their drink down in anticipation of a goal celebration. To rid your wooden furniture of water rings rub a little non-gel toothpaste onto the water ring and buff with a clean cloth.
If you’re hoping to do some victory dancing you might find your hardwood floor gets a little scuffed up. Rub the area vigorously with a soft cloth (a dab of floor cleaner should work for tougher marks).
Give the Bathroom a Good Scrub
It’ll be getting more footfall than normal and bathrooms have the potential to get very messy and germ ridden. So, disinfect the toilet and wash the hand towels to keep things sanitary.
Banish Beer Spills
If things got a little out of control your can sort out beer stains by blotting with a paper towels to dry, then sponge with a solution of 1tsp laundry detergent and a cup of warm water. After that, mix one part white vinegar with two parts cool water and sponge with water again. Blot dry to finish.
Refresh the Sofa
Chances are you sofa will take a beating during the party. Crisp crumbs, spills when you ‘cheers’ and (in this heat) sweaty bodies. For a quick spruce up sprinkle bicarbonate of soda on the sofa and let it sit for at least twenty minutes. Then, vacuum thoroughly with the brush attachment.
