What are the black lines around the edge of my carpet?
Quite often you’ll see black lines around the edge of your carpet, and we get asked if we know what the lines are and what causes them. Usually they’re around the edge from the skirting boards into the carpet, or they can be dots just inside the skirting board or even thick black lines under the doors, commonly the airing cupboard door.
Don’t panic, It’s not a dirty house, it doesn’t mean you don’t clean.
The main cause is air movement. Purely and simply, the air’s pulling through between the gap between the skirting board and the floorboards, and the carpet is filtering that air, taking all the pollution from outside, leaving this thick black line which is caused by grease and oils.
Good news, it can usually be removed. If it can’t be removed a hundred percent, it’s significantly improved.
